PERFORM with pride. Together, we B-SAFE

Health, Safety, Quality & Environment

We PERFORM with pride. Together, we B-SAFE.

Every job we undertake carries a responsibility: to the people doing the work, the customers relying on us and the environment around us.

At Butler Bros Environmental Solutions, health, safety, quality and environmental responsibility are central to how we plan, deliver and improve our services. From an emergency drainage callout to a planned civils project, our approach starts with understanding the risks and putting the right people, equipment and controls in place.

Our commitment is simple: look after people, deliver work we can stand behind and take responsibility for our impact.

Recognised standards. Everyday responsibility.

Our management systems are certified to three internationally recognised standards:

ISO 45001 — Occupational Health & Safety

Providing a structured approach to managing health and safety risks, preventing injury and ill health, and improving working conditions.

ISO 9001 — Quality Management

Supporting consistent delivery, clear processes, customer satisfaction and continual improvement.

ISO 14001 — Environmental Management

Helping us understand our environmental impact, manage our responsibilities and improve environmental performance.

Alongside our ISO certifications, our Constructionline Gold verification supports our commitment to demonstrating the standards and arrangements behind our work.

Our certifications and verification are important milestones. Their real value comes from putting the principles into practice, on site, in our vehicles and throughout the business.

BSafe Butler Bros

Every person. Every decision. Every day.

B-SAFE is our commitment to making safe working part of who we are.

It connects the decisions we make at work with the people and lives waiting for us at home. It encourages everyone to think ahead, speak openly and look out for each other.

A deadline, a difficult job or a change of plan must never become a reason to take an avoidable risk.

B — Before you begin

Understand the job, the surroundings and what could cause harm. Check the plan, equipment, competence and controls before work starts.

S — Stop if something is wrong

If conditions change, a control is missing or something does not feel safe, stop. Make the situation safe where possible and involve the person responsible before continuing.

A — Assess and act

Take time to assess the risk and agree the right response. Review the working method and put effective controls in place.

F — Follow the safe system

Follow the agreed method, permits and site rules. Use the correct equipment and protection, and work within your training and authorisation.

E — Everyone goes home safe

Look after yourself and those around you. Report concerns, share lessons and consider the long-term health effects of the work as well as immediate hazards.

Your voice is a safety control

Everyone working for or with Butler Bros is expected to raise concerns when they see something unsafe.

Our commitment is to listen, take concerns seriously and support anyone who stops work in good faith to prevent harm.

See it. Say it. Stop if unsafe.

Looking after health, as well as safety

Some work-related harm happens gradually. Protecting our people means considering what they are exposed to over time, as well as what could cause an immediate injury.

We take a practical approach to occupational health through suitable equipment, exposure controls, hygiene arrangements, training and health surveillance where required.

Wellbeing matters too. We encourage people to speak up about fatigue, stress or other concerns that could affect their health or ability to work safely.

Looking after each other includes noticing when someone needs support.

Quality: confidence in the work we leave behind

Our customers need work that meets the agreed requirements and information they can rely on.

We build quality into each stage of delivery:

Understand the requirement

Establish the scope, site conditions, customer expectations and any technical requirements before starting.

Prepare for delivery

Allocate suitable people, equipment, materials and working methods, with clear responsibilities.

Check as we work

Carry out appropriate inspections and checks, record relevant findings and communicate changes that could affect the outcome.

Complete and hand over

Review the work against the agreed scope and provide the relevant reports, photographs or completion records.

Learn and improve

Use customer feedback, defects and lessons from completed jobs to improve future performance.

When something falls short, our approach is to take ownership, agree the corrective action and address the cause.

Environmental responsibility: protect the places we work

Our work brings us into contact with drainage networks, wastewater, excavated materials and sensitive surroundings. Understanding those risks is essential to responsible delivery.

Our environmental approach focuses on:

  • Preventing pollution: planning work to reduce the risk of fuel, oils, wastewater, silt and other contaminants entering land or water.
  • Managing waste responsibly: identifying waste streams and using appropriate storage, transport, documentation and authorised disposal or recovery routes.
  • Using resources carefully: reducing unnecessary material use and supporting reuse and recycling where suitable.
  • Reducing avoidable journeys and idling: considering vehicle movements, planning and equipment use.
  • Protecting the surrounding area: considering nearby watercourses, habitats, vegetation and neighbours when planning work.
  • Being ready to respond: providing appropriate spill controls and reporting arrangements for environmental incidents.

We recognise that environmental improvement is ongoing. Our aim is to understand our impact, identify practical improvements and make them part of everyday working.

R·M

Respect & maintenance excellence

Strong standards need strong teamwork

Directors, managers, supervisors, engineers and support colleagues all have a role in health, safety, quality and environmental performance.

Our approach brings together leadership, training, clear instructions and opportunities for our people to contribute. Subcontractors are expected to meet the standards relevant to their work and cooperate with our site arrangements.

Through inductions, briefings, toolbox talks and ongoing communication, we aim to make expectations clear and keep learning connected to the work being done.

We also recognise positive behaviours: identifying a hazard, supporting a colleague, preventing pollution or suggesting a better way to complete a task.

Report – Learn – Improve.

Reporting gives us the opportunity to act before a problem becomes more serious.

We encourage the reporting of hazards, near misses, incidents, defects and environmental concerns. We use Bright Safe to support accident and incident reporting and WorkPal to support operational records and equipment defect reporting.

Our focus is on understanding what happened, identifying contributing factors and following corrective actions through to completion.

Inspections, audits, customer feedback and management reviews help us assess whether our arrangements are working and where further improvement is needed.

Every concern raised is an opportunity to make the next job safer and better.
